Cardinals Keep it Close Shorthanded

Catonsville MD, Jan 28, 2026- The CCBC Lady Cardinals dropped a tough four-point contest (70-66) in their return home to a now 12-3 WVU Potomac State squad.

CCBC came into this one shorthanded with just six players in the rotation. The Cardinals however kept it close throughout and took the first half of the contest on the back of their defense and hustle. They were able to force WVU Potomac into 18 total turnovers while only turning it over 8 times themselves. Mya Gilsen was the leading scorer of the contest with 29 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Tarshay Bell led the Cardinals with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and 7 blocks. The contest was up and down with 7 ties, 8 lead changes and both teams gaining double digit leads at some point in the contest.

The Cardinals were able to cut the lead from 14 at the 4-minute mark, to 3 with 50 seconds remaining while playing with only 4, then eventually 3 players due to foul trouble. Potomac State was able to pull away with the win and improve to 12-3 while the Cardinals drop their fourth straight and go to 8-10. The Lady Cardinals will look to bounce back at home this Friday Jan 30 against Baltimore City Community College.
