Catonsville, Md. – November 1, 2025 – The CCBC Catonsville women's basketball team dropped their home opener 71-44 to Cape Fear Community College on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals showed early defensive energy but struggled to keep pace with the Sea Devils' consistent shooting and rebounding effort across four quarters.
CCBC Catonsville (0-2) hung tough in the first half, trailing 36-21 at the break. The Cardinals moved the ball effectively and got key contributions from Anaiya Morrison, who led the team with 9 points and 6 rebounds, and Kasiahna Murphy, who added 8 points and 5 rebounds. Makenzie Foreman chipped in with 8 points and 4 rebounds, providing a spark in the paint.
Despite Catonsville's efforts, Cape Fear (2-0) pulled away with a balanced scoring attack led by Mani Robinson (17 points, 7 rebounds) and Maggie Hayley (10 points, 8 rebounds). The Sea Devils outshot the Cardinals 40.3% to 34.0% from the field and held a 54-32 advantage on the boards. Their ability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities and maintain defensive pressure proved key in securing the victory.
The Cardinals improved offensively in the second half, shooting 56.3% in the third quarter and showing stronger movement in transition. Tarshay Bell and Tiyae Dowell provided valuable minutes off the bench, combining for 10 points and 6 rebounds. However, Cape Fear's depth and late-game execution allowed them to maintain a steady lead throughout the fourth quarter.
CCBC Catonsville will look to bounce back in their next contest as they continue to build chemistry early in the season. The Cardinals showed encouraging signs of growth on both ends of the court and will aim to translate their progress into a complete four-quarter performance.
