Keyser, West Virginia- March 24th- During an unfortunate road trip to West Virginia for a doubleheader, the Lady Cardinals were swept by WVU Potomac State, including being no-hit in the opening game.
The first game was a quick one for the Catamounts, who set the tone early with a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back. WVU Potomac State continued to apply pressure offensively, adding runs in multiple innings en route to a 10-0 victory via the mercy rule. Their pitcher, Delaney Randolph, was dominant in the circle, tossing her first collegiate no-hitter and silencing the Cardinals' bats throughout the contest.
Looking to regroup in game two, the Cardinals showed much more life offensively. Despite the improved performance at the plate, they were unable to capitalize in key moments, falling 8-1. The Cardinals out-hit the Catamounts 7-6 but struggled to bring runners home.
Aliceanna Weibley led the way offensively, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in the Cardinals' lone run. Maggie Rowland also had a strong showing, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk and scoring the team's only run. The Cardinals generated opportunities throughout the game but were unable to string together timely hits, leaving multiple runners stranded.
WVU Potomac State used timely hitting and key scoring innings to maintain control, capitalizing on their chances to keep the Cardinals at a distance despite being outhit.
Despite the tough losses, the Lady Cardinals showed resilience in game two and will look to carry that offensive momentum forward. With little time to dwell, the team will aim to bounce back quickly as they travel to face Cecil College in another doubleheader on March 25th.
