Cross Country Freshman Kris Purdie Headed to NJCAA XC D-I Nationals in Iowa this weekend
November 8, 2017
In just its second year of the program's re-emergence on the Catonsville campus, the Men's cross country team led by head coach Mark Pryor again can boast a National Championship qualifier. CCBC Cardinal freshman, Kris Purdie will be traveling to Iowa Central Community College this weekend to compete against the nation's best Junior College distance runners.
Purdie who graduated from Woodlawn High School and only competed in football as well as indoor & outdoor track during his high school days is enjoying a fantastic first year of running cross country. Unlike T&F, cross country is a race over 8k (5.0 miles) against a collection of teams and individuals that can total as many as over 300 participants at the same time vying for top finishes. Purdie has improved his times and finishes in every race this season with a personal best time of 27:19 and placing 2nd at the 2017 Region XX Cross Country Championships on Oct 21st.
In the Region Meet held at Hagerstown Community College, Purdie led the race from the start and continued to lead for 4.5 miles until the last half-mile where he was passed but rallied to make the finish exciting. The previous week in Delaware, Purdie ran another exciting race over the 5 mile distance placing 4th against Division I runners.
