CATONSVILLE, MD – The CCBC Catonsville Men’s Soccer team is off to a good start. After losing 3-1 to NOVA to open the season, the men were able to secure two wins on the road in upstate New York.
The Cardinals squad practiced hard all week in preparation for their matches against Niagara County and Erie Community Colleges’. Traveling up the pike, Cardinals took on Niagara CCC on Saturday, August 26, 2017, to get their first win of the season. In the first half of the game, Thunderwolves led by 2, but Thuam Mung quickly cut the score in half just before half time with an assist by Eddy Fossung, making the score 2-1.
Things escalated quickly in the second half, with two goals by Eddy Fossung and one by Joseph Sefoi, making the lead 3-2 Cardinals with 18 minutes remaining. Not far behind, Abdul Keita knocks in a header off a free kick from Max Munther-Anderson. With under 10 minutes to play, another goal by Henry Mulli with an assist from Eddy Fossung, quickly followed by a return goal from the Thunderwolves with a score of CCBC 5- 3 Niagara. Cardinals’ Isaiah Scott sneaked in one more goal with under a minute remaining, sealing the game 6-3 for CCBC Catonsville.
On Sunday, August 27, 2017, the Cardinals took on Erie Community College. During the first half of the game, Cardinals took the lead 1-0 with a goal by Franck Bouke, assist from Eddy Fossung. 17 minutes in to the second half the men were able to notch another goal with a header by Eddy Fossung off a beautiful cross by Thuam Mung. With just a few minutes remaining in the second half, Erie was able to sneak one, but the Cardinals strong defensive play help secure the final result for the squad 2-1.
