CATONSVILLE, Md. - The Cardinals Men's Soccer team is coming off a 6-11 campaign in 2013 under first year head coach Kenan McCoy and are looking to add to that win total this season.
On Monday evening, the Cardinals opened its 2014 season with a 7-0 victory over visiting Delaware County Community College (Del. Co.).
The hosts opened the scoring at the 10 minute mark as sophomore Nolan McCoy headed an Abdul Kabba crossing pass over the charging Del. Co. keeper.
Ben Adeloye tallied the second Catonsville goal on a strike from 20 yards out that grazed the crossbar on its way to the back on the net.
The Cardinals went up 3-0 sixteen minutes in when freshman Adebogun Adedotun collected the ball at 25 yards and split two Del. Co. defenders, before beating the keeper one-on-one and tucking the ball inside the near post.
Mark Dweh closed the first half scoring giving the Cardinals a 4-0 lead at the break after he outraced the Del. Co. defenders and found the net from the top of the six.
Just one minute into the second half, Moise Damey drilled a volley from Najai Gordon into the back of the net. Damey and Adedotun each added a second half goal to give the Cardinals the 7-0 win.
Pablo Rodas-Roque and Mark Dweh also added assists.
The Cardinals also received a solid showing from its defense, allowing just two Delaware County shots on goal with freshman GK Mauricio Franco recording the lone Catonsville save in the contest. Franco combined with Wilfred Damey and Nicholas Roros to earn the shutout.
The Cardinals return to action on Sept. 3 at 4 PM as they host Northern Virginia Community College.
