The Cardinals Baseball team (3-7, 2-2 MDJUCO) earned a DH split on Sunday as they hosted the College of Southern Maryland. In game one the Cardinals received an outstanding pitching performance from Sophomore Mark Burnside who tossed a complete game 5 hitter with 5 strikeouts for the 3-2 win. Trejon Smith led the way offensively with a 2 run base hit, while Abel Arocho, Nic Fisher, and Will Enrico also added singles. In the 2nd game the Cardinal bats were quiet as they were no hit through 4 frames until a Ben Sifen base hit broke up the Southern Maryland no hit bid in the 5th. Trailing 4-0, Sophomore Richard Hunt led off the 6th inning with a double in the gap, and Cody Beacorn and Desean Rabb followed with singles scoring Hunt, with Ben Sifen then delivered a base hit down the 3rd base line scoring Rabb and Beacorn. Sifen was then driven in by Dave Flacco to tie the game at 4. Southern Maryland was able to move a walked batsman around with the help of a Catonsville error in the top of the 7th off Cardinals reliever Sean Pico to plate the go ahead run, and the Hawks closed the door on the Cardinals in the bottom of the inning for the 5-4 win.
The Cardinals will return to action, pending field conditions, on Thursday, March 20 with a DH vs Tompkins Cortland beginning at 2:00pm.
