Catonsville, MD – CCBC Catonsville lost a pair of games to Mercer County Community College, losing Game 1 by a score of 9-0, and losing a heartbreaking Game 2, 7-6.
Vikings ace pitcher, Andrew DiPiazza shut down the potent Cardinal offense in game one. DiPiazza would give up only two hits and strike out eleven, tossing six shutout innings. Courtney Mack started for Catonsville (8-4-1) and struck out five. Denzel Johnson and Matthew Thomas accounted for the only Cardinal hits.
CCBC Catonsville held a 6-4 lead going into the bottom of the seventh before Mercer CCC responded for three runs off Cardinal reliever Craig Lopez, and held on for a 7-6 win.
Catonsville (8-5-1) starter Jordan Sanders (Northeast H.S.) was outstanding for six innings. The big right-hander gave Cardinal Skipper Dan Blue and his teammates a huge lift, allowing three runs, giving up only two hits while striking out six. Catcher Edward Nottingham (Mt. St. Joe’s H.S.) and third baseman Matthew Thomas (Severna Park H.S.) were both 2-3 with a double and homerun.
