CATONSVILLE, Md. -- CCBC Catonsville and Harford Community College met Wednesday for a Maryland JUCO showcase match-up and Harford escaped with a 7-6 win.
Brandon O’Malley would start and hold the powerful Fighting Owl bats in check for 4.2 innings. O’Malley would only give up five hits, and one earned run, but the Cardinal defense was uncharacteristically shaky as they committed five errors in the contest, leading to four unearned runs.
Centerfielder Christian Laidley had two hits and two runs batted in for the Cardinals and was a difference maker patrolling the outfield. Kyle Caravan also had two hits. First-Baseman Jordan Sanders made the most noise for Catonsville, as his three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh cut the Harford lead to 7-6.
Thanks to excellent relief work by sophomore Nick Collins, the Cardinals had a chance in the eighth and ninth innings but rallies fell just short.
CCBC Catonsville will be back in action on Saturday, March 19 as they welcome the Cougars from Frederick Community College in another showcase series for Maryland JUCO baseball.
